Ignite your musical theatre spark on our five day Chicago Summer School. Part of our summer schools programme, you will work with top West End creatives to stage a production of hit musical Chicago in just five days which will be performed to a live audience of friends and family on the final day.
Sing, act and dance your way through a list of showstoppers, bring down the house and tick ‘star in a hit musical’ off your Summer to-do list.
You will take part in a casting process to determine your role as a lead character or join as a member of the ensemble, which does not require an audition. Take your previous performance experience to the next level or your first step into the spotlight as a musical theatre beginner - everyone is welcome.
Once you have signed up, Head of Musical Theatre will be in contact nearer the time to arrange auditions for lead roles should you wish to try out. If not, you will have a guaranteed place in the ensemble where you will be extremely busy and have more than plenty to do, do not fear!
Chicago Summer School: What you will cover
- You will start each morning with vocal and physical warm ups which will energise, focus and prepare you for each day ahead. This will also improve technique, stamina and general fitness.
- Learn the materials from Chicago the musical focusing on very specific dance and singing styles which you will explore in great detail as well as delving deep into characterisation, relationship and connection.
- For those with speaking lines, you will be working on refining an American accent and will focus on voice technique so that you can portray these characters as accurately and comfortably as possible.
- Integration of singing, acting and dance is essential in Musical Theatre and is particularly key in a Musical such as Chicago. So throughout the days, your brain and body will improve vastly at this very specialised skill
- You will be working fast and hard in order to learn a full Musical in only 5 days, so a combination of a positive attitude, great team work and practise at home in addition to the hours in studio will all contribute in putting on a fantastic show which you and your friends and family will be extremely proud of

No Venue
All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.
