City Academy Songbirds

City Academy Songbirds

The Songbirds Choir is City Academy’s only all female choir. With over 60 members and headed by choir director Katherine Hare, the choir has been running for five years and has gone from strength to strength. They perform in their own concerts twice a year, most recently to a sold-out crowd of over 350 people.

The choir sing everything from pop to gospel, musical theatre to classical…anything goes. They have also appeared on X-Factor for ITV, Pitch Battle for the BBC and last year received a special commendation from the UK Choir Festival. They have also recently recorded a charity single for Dreamflight.

If you’re interested in joining Songbirds, you must attend a taster session. During the taster you will attend a regular rehearsal and meet the rest of the group. The MD will also take the opportunity to hear you sing as well as assess your suitability for the group. Following the taster, the Head of Singing will inform you via email if you have been accepted.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm in Bloomsbury Baptist Church, Central London.

In weekly rehearsals, you will develop in the following areas:

  • Develop and refine vocal technique and dynamic choral performance
  • Explore a variety of song genres and increase your repertoire knowledge
  • Improve range, pitch and listening skills
  • Learn about the vocal anatomy and build confidence

Who can join?

The City Academy Songbirds are a female only singing group. The choir is open to women with any voice type who have at least some previous group singing experience. The choir is not suitable for absolute beginners.

If you do not have the experience required, we recommend you complete a Beginners Singing and Improvers Singing course before progressing to the choir.

We are always looking for new members - so if you have a love of performing and are looking to develop your vocal technique, please contact info@city-academy.com for more information.

As a member of the Songbirds, you don’t have to commit to every rehearsal evening, as we appreciate people have busy lives. However, putting on a choir show takes a lot of hard work, practise at home and commitment in order for it to be a success, so we do ask that you attend as many classes as you can.
