Online Acting Classes - Beginners

Our Online Acting Beginners course offers a gentle introduction to acting in a friendly and encouraging environment. Join like-minded individuals and come together in a creative, virtual space to learn the key skills needed to deliver a convincing performance. You will explore a range of acting techniques with a strong focus on self-expression and creativity in a playful setting.

Whether you are aspiring to be a professional actor, looking to boost your creative-thinking skills or keen to try something new and build confidence, this online acting course will get you started.

In this course you will:

• Enjoy live, online group games and exercises to build skills in receptivity, imagination and performance
• Explore a range of approaches to acting
• Look at various approaches to creating a character
• Learn voice and physical warm-up exercises
• Make an initial approach to script work

Each class will provide opportunity to practise newfound acting skills under the friendly guidance of an experienced tutor, ensuring you feel comfortable and get the most out of your virtual lesson.

OUR APPROACH

The City Academy Acting Department takes what we like to call a ‘rainbow’ approach to actor training in that we do not adhere to just one school of thought on technique. In our courses you will experience various styles such as Method, Stanislavski and the basics of Meisner. Our acting coaches are all working, professional actors and directors who bring their own expertise, enabling a rounded approach of effective techniques that work for you as an individual.

Our Online Acting Courses equip students with the tools needed to start thinking like an actor. What questions do actors need to ask and how does this exploration bring about a performance? How does it feel to be an actor and tell a story from the character’s perspective? Acting class is about exploring ideas rather than demonstrating talent so there is a strong focus on group work and imagination - essential ingredients for any actor.

You will need:

• a device with a camera and microphone
• at least 2 square metres to move in
• comfortable clothes so you can move freely

A note on participation: Enhancing these skills requires practical and active participation. As this is an interactive, group class all students will be required to have their videos turned on.
