Online Creative Writing Classes - Level 2

This virtual course is ideal for writers with some experience. Here, you will have the chance to kick-start a full-length piece, formulate new ideas and realise them in fresh and dynamic ways.

City Academy’s Online Creative Writing Classes - Level 2 is project-based and is best for those who wish to write the outline for a longer piece of work such as a novel, a screenplay, a TV pilot or a stage play. These classes are ideal for those who have completed our Beginners course and have the basic toolkit, or for writers looking for group feedback on a project at an early stage of development. To craft your individual piece, you will receive input from the rest of the group and notes from our experienced tutor. This will be punctuated by practical exercises, tackling common problems or stumbling blocks.

Like all of our online writing lessons, you’ll receive friendly, constructive feedback from your teacher throughout the course. The opportunity to discuss and share your ideas with a group of fellow writers can be an incredibly useful part of the creative process, helping you develop the style and scope of your writing.

In this course you will

• Engage in practical exercises that focus on style, craft and storytelling principles.
• Devise plot, structure and narrative for prose fiction and live drama.
• Carry out regular writing prompts designed to generate new material at an early draft stage.
• Create a first chapter or scene as a part of larger piece of fiction.
• Share your own work read by others, providing constructive criticism and support.

• A device with a camera and microphone
• A desk, table or flat surface on which to write
• Some paper or a notebook
• A pen or pencil

A note on participation: Enhancing these skills requires practical and active participation. As this is an interactive, group class all students will be required to have their videos turned on.
