Online Songwriting Course

Online Songwriting Course provides skills for writing well-crafted lyrics and melodies. You'll gain a grounding in basic music theory and storytelling commonly used in popular song writing.

You don't need not be a singer for this course. The only requirement is a keen interest in music and writing lyrics. Our virtual workshop is open to those who do not play instruments, are new to writing, as well as more experienced writers.

You will examine the work of prolific songwriters such as Diane Warren, Sia, Max Martin and many more, in combination with practical exercises that explore different music genres. You will be guided by a professional songwriter working in the industry.

Each week will begin with a thorough vocal warm up before going on to develop and apply key techniques and approaches to develop your song writing skills.

Your voice and creativity will develop each week and you’ll gain a sense of control and confidence when singing. Best of all, ss with all of our online writing courses, you’ll have a lot of fun, and meet like-minded new people.

During the course you will

• Develop an awareness of song structures, lyrical content and musical composition
• Explore song themes and learn how to draw inspiration from situations and surroundings
• Learn how lyricism and musicality work together
• Learn how to write well-crafted and relatable lyrics
• Create complete songs with lyrics and melody

You will need

• A device with a camera and microphone
• A desk, table or flat surface on which to write
• Some paper or a notebook
• A pen or pencil

You are welcome to share your ideas in their preliminary stages as well as more developed songs you wish to work on. It is a great idea to have an instrument on hand if you work with one, otherwise just your voice and an open mind.

A note on participation: Enhancing these skills requires practical and active participation. As this is an interactive, group class all students will be required to have their videos turned on.
