Subjects taught by Andrew Weale:
Writing for Children courses

Andrew Weale is an award-winning children’s author, writing tutor and a lecturer on children’s writing at Winchester University.

After taking part-time courses in children’s writing, stand-up comedy and comedy writing, Andrew wrote his first children’s book – One Newt in a Suit – and was offered a contract with the prestigious publishing house, Hodder Children’s Books. Since then he has written four more children’s books and has been published by Andersen Press and Random House. In 2013 Andrew won the Red House Children’s Book Award for his pop-up book Spooky Spooky House – the only national award for children’s books that is voted for entirely by children themselves.

Andrew’s classes are fun and interactive, as he is a huge advocate of learning by doing. He loves reading his students’ work and watching them develop, and – having begun his writing career by taking evening classes – believes that anyone is capable of achieving the same success.

More information about Andrew and his work can be found on his website here.

“Exceeded my expectations, the workshop was fun, lively, interactive. I learned so much in one day and I believe this is the foundation I needed to start me off as a children’s writer.”
