She studied English at Leeds University and holds a Masters with Distinction in Journalism from Goldsmiths College, after receiving an Arts and Humanities Research Council Scholarship.

She spent many years working in magazines in London, before being awarded an Arts Council England Literature grant for the completion of her first book. No Way Home: A Memoir of Life on the Run, about her childhood growing up as the daughter of a federal fugitive, was later published by St. Martin’s Press, with The Washington Post calling it “a luminous memoir that no one who reads will soon forget.”

As a freelance journalist, her work has appeared in The Guardian, Vice, and Condé Nast Traveler, amongst others, and her short fiction has been included in publications such as The Gettysburg Review and Brooklyn Vol. 1. She was the Deputy Editor for literary journal, The Wrong Quarterly, and taught creative writing and journalism at Manhattanville College in New York.

Tyler is currently working on a novel, the screen adaptation of No Way Home, a TV pilot, and a collection of essays.

“I want my students to come away having discovered unchartered creative territory within themselves and armed with new tools to turn ideas into reality.”
