Violin - Beginners

Our Violin Lessons are a fun, supportive and social way to learn to play the violin in London. You will learn to play the acoustic/classical violin with an experienced professional violinist and tutor. Like most of our music lessons, our classes are taught in a group, but you’ll get individual feedback and help every step of the way. 

City Academy’s Violin Lessons for Beginners will teach you how to play violin from the basics. Suitable for beginners, you will be given the musical knowledge, correct violin techniques and foundational skills to be able to pursue learning the instrument. These adult violin lessons are taught in groups on the acoustic/classical violin. Our tutors are professional musicians who will help you learn to play violin in a fun and supportive environment.

All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.

WHAT WILL BE TAUGHT ON THESE VIOLIN LESSONS?

This Violin Beginners course for adults has been designed to give you a solid introduction to violin playing. Course content will include:  

  • Learning how to hold the violin and the bow correctly 
  • Tuning your violin 
  • Learning the basics of music theory through playing 
  • Reading music notation 
  • Dynamics, tempo, and basic articulation 
  • An introduction to chamber music 
  • Playing in the group along with others

This course is suitable for complete beginners and those who possess a passion and curiosity to learn more about the violin. Please note you need to be 18+ to attend.

HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT?

 The courses are taught within groups where you will work on various exercises and songs as well as receiving individual feedback.

BY THE END OF THE COURSE, WHAT WILL I HAVE ACHIEVED?

Students will have: 

  • Gained the ability to play easy songs by ear 
  • Developed violinistic techniques and the ability to apply them yourself 
  • Grasped how to read music notation 
  • Playing solo and in violin ensemble 

WHERE TO FIND AN INSTRUMENT

You will need a violin to take part in this course. If you don't own a violin, you may find that monthly hire in London is surprisingly affordable. 

City Academy recommends Bridgewood and Neitzert in Stoke Newington or Stringers of London in Marylebone.
